THE VR WHEELCHAIR | PARSONS MFA DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

HELPING FIRST-TIME USERS LEARN TO NAVIGATE

This project is a VR experience that aims to help first-time wheelchair users navigate the world confidently on their first day. It consists of two components. The first is a 3D virtual urban environment that simulates everyday obstacles faced by new wheelchair users. The second component is a stationary wheelchair with motion-tracking sensors on its free-moving wheels.

The VR Wheelchair was created as part of my MFA Design and Technology thesis at Parsons in NYC, collaborating with Fjord and other talented contributors.

Components of the Project

We managed the project for the prototype in three main sections: the user interface, visual simulation, and physical simulation.

DRAWINGS & ILLUSTRATIONS

The first four are some of my pencil drawings.

The last two are editorial illustrations I made for a magazine. They were exhibited in the annual show held by GMK. (Art Directors Club of Turkey) I used pencil, spray paint, ink, and Adobe Illustrator, then composed them in Adobe Photoshop.

GAZE

I wanted to try projection mapping and came up with this project. I used MadMapper, Cinema 4D, Resolume, and After Effects. This was my first projection mapping project. Before the actual shape I designed for the project, I tried it on a cube and then a cylinder.
